River Dart Rotary is proud to announce the successful arrival of our latest humanitarian aid shipment to Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, delivered in partnership with PhysioNet.

While the arrival of a lorry may not sound remarkable in itself, this shipment represents something much bigger: a chain of support stretching from communities across the UK to vulnerable children and families in eastern Ukraine.

A Partnership That Delivers

This project combines the strengths of two organisations with a shared goal.

PhysioNet brings expertise in collecting, refurbishing and preparing specialist rehabilitation and mobility equipment. River Dart Rotary provides fundraising, logistical support, volunteers and access to Rotary’s extensive international network.

Together, we create a trusted route through which donated equipment can be given a second life and reach those who need it most.

More Than Sending a Lorry

What makes this programme different is the visibility and accountability throughout the entire process.

We don’t simply load equipment onto a lorry and hope it arrives.

Through established Rotary relationships, trusted local partners and family connections in Ukraine, we are able to follow equipment from donation and collection, through transport and border crossings, right through to delivery and distribution.

These relationships help overcome challenges, provide reassurance to donors and ensure equipment is directed to the people and organisations that need it most.

Supporting Children With Complex Needs

This latest shipment contained more than 1,200 items, with a significant focus on paediatric rehabilitation and mobility equipment.

Among the items delivered were:

  • Specialist therapy chairs
  • Standing frames
  • Walkers and mobility aids
  • Wheelchairs
  • Rehabilitation equipment
  • Other specialist paediatric support equipment

For many children with complex physical disabilities, access to the correct equipment can be genuinely life-changing. It can improve comfort, mobility, independence and participation in everyday life.

The photographs received from Ukraine demonstrate the impact more clearly than words ever could. Equipment that may no longer be required in the UK is now helping children and families overcome daily challenges and improve their quality of life.

A Proven Model

This shipment is part of a much larger effort.

Through the collaboration between River Dart Rotary, PhysioNet and our partners in Ukraine, more than 33 lorry loads of humanitarian aid have been delivered over the last 4.5 years.

Each shipment represents thousands of hours of volunteer effort and the generosity of countless donors, organisations and supporters.

Thank You

None of this would be possible without the people behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who donates equipment, raises funds, helps with transport, volunteers their time or supports this work in any way. Every contribution plays a part in transforming lives.

The success of this project is a powerful example of what can be achieved when local communities, international friendships and trusted Rotary connections come together with a common purpose.

Local donations. International connections. Life-changing outcomes.
