Super Dawdle
Is a community initiative devised to raise funds for charities and is organised by River Dart Rotary.
The Event
It will be staged in Coronation Park, Dartmouth, and will take place on Sunday 20th September 2026.
The event is supported by various community-minded corporate sponsors and individuals who each contribute to the creation of a fund that will be released by those taking part. During the course of the event, which will run from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, Latest Start Time, every lap of the park will release £2 for the benefit of the event charities from the fund created by the SPONSORS.
Those taking part can spend as long or as little as they choose at the event and return as often as they choose throughout the day, with Marshals keeping tally of how many laps have been covered.
This event provides the opportunity to take exercise at your own pace and at your chosen time, while at the same time knowing that the calories you are burning off are going to improve the lives of others.
The essential difference between the Dartmouth Super Dawdle and a typical sponsored walk is that, for the latter, entrants are required to sign up personal sponsors and then collect and pay over the sponsorship monies.
For this event, there is no obligation to seek personal sponsorship – all that the entrants need to do is to simply take part; the contributions to the chosen charities will come from the sponsors’ fund.
Anyone who wants to demonstrate one lap of their finest silly walk (with a sentimental nod to Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks) please do so between 12.00 noon and 1.00 pm when an independent judge will select the prize winner for the best walk on the day

River Dart Rotary Super Dawdle – Q&A
Q: Normally, when I do a sponsored walk, I have to get sponsors to pledge money. Why don’t I have to for the Super Dawdle?
A: The Charities will get their money from the amount donated by Sponsors. For every one of the laps of the park completed by everyone taking part, £2 goes into the charity pot.
Q: Why didn't the Sponsors just give the money straight to the charities
A: Because by asking people to walk for the charities, the Super Dawdle creates a community event which will contribute to the general level of fitness and help those taking part to get fit.
Q: If I want to use the event to raise some sponsorship as well, can I?
A: Certainly – but there is no obligation.
Q: If I do get sponsorship, does it have to be for the Super Dawdle?
A: No – We would be delighted if you did, but if you want to raise money for your own preferred cause, you can certainly do so.
Q: How would I go about that?
A: You should create your own sponsorship form.
Q: Is there a limit to the number of laps I can do?
A: No. You can log as many as you like and even have a break and come back later – the Marshals will keep track. Your last walk needs to start no later than 2.30 pm and end by 3.30pm
