River Dart Rotary Celebrates Its Second Charter Night

River Dart Rotary gathered recently for a memorable evening as we celebrated our 2nd Charter Night—a chance not only to enjoy good company, but also to reflect on how far our young and enthusiastic club has come in just two years.

The evening was also an opportunity to celebrate the leadership of our Club President, Peter Adolphus, whose guidance and dedication have been instrumental in driving River Dart Rotary’s continued growth and impact. President Peter welcomed guests, reflected on another successful year of community service, and expressed pride in the achievements made possible through the commitment of our members and supporters.

A Year of Achievement

During the evening’s speech, we looked back on what has been an incredibly productive and impactful year. Although we often think of ourselves as a small club, the results speak for themselves.

By June, we expect to have raised around £27,500 and distributed approximately £25,500 to charities and causes that truly make a difference. Beneficiaries over the past year include:

  • RNLI
  • Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution
  • Dartmouth Foodbank
  • Dartmouth Caring
  • Dartmouth Veterans’ Day Lunch
  • Lend with Care
  • Events and Stuff South West
  • Support for three lorries sent to Ukraine

And still to come in the next few months, we will be supporting:

  • Heartstart
  • Royal Dart Yacht Club Youth Sailing Trust
  • Dartmouth Gig Club
  • Devon Air Ambulance
  • Children’s Hospice South-West
  • Additional charities selected as beneficiaries of the upcoming Totnes Classic Vehicle Show

More Than Fundraising

Rotary is about community, connection, and service—and our club has truly lived those values.

Over the past year our members have been involved in a wide range of hands-on projects, including:

  • The ongoing work of our wonderful Weed Monkeys
  • Painting the Boat Planter at Royal Avenue Gardens
  • Supporting the Dartmouth Dawdle
  • Organising weekly supermarket collections for the Dartmouth Foodbank
  • Volunteering with the Reading Buddies team at Dartmouth Academy
  • Creating Happy to Chat benches along the Embankment to promote community wellbeing

These projects demonstrate the heart of River Dart Rotary—people coming together to give their time, skills, and enthusiasm to benefit others.

Looking Ahead

Two dates were highlighted for your diaries:

📌 Saturday 9th MayThe first-ever Super Dawdle in Coronation Park, supporting Children’s Hospice South-West and Devon Air Ambulance.
📌 Sunday 28th JuneThe Totnes Classic Vehicle Show at Staverton, run by River Dart Rotary for the first time.

Both events promise to be fantastic community occasions and important fundraising opportunities.

A Night to Remember
